Launch Math + Science Centers provide toddlers to tweens with inspiring math instruction and STEM-based camps and classes. The Lead Programming Teacher reports to the Curriculum and Program Manager and contributes to the development and implementation of K-8 STEM curriculum. Through a hands-on approach and an understanding of Launch programs and industry trends, the Lead Programming Teacher will work to ensure that Launch remains a leader in education enrichment.


Lead Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Teach in-center and in-school classes across NYC (approximately 30% of work hours will be spent teaching)
  • Actively manage Launch instructors to ensure successful execution of curriculum
  • Assist in making sure teachers are properly trained and understand how to implement curriculum the most effective way
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of year-round class and camp schedules and logistics
  • Ensure class and camp hardware requirements are met (computers, cell phones, etc.)
  • Field customer inquiries related to classes and camps
  • Work with Curriculum and Program Manager to prepare up-to-date material needs requirements for classes and camps
  • Prepare material for classes and camps and make adjustments when necessary


Technology Curriculum Developer Responsibilities:

  • Understand how students learn and what it takes to make a successful project
  • Review and assess Launch's existing computer programming, robotics, and general technology curriculum to ensure that programs are meeting intended objectives
  • Develop and refine new curriculum (from idea generation to mock-up to documentation)
  • Prepare and maintain instructional training materials (print, video, etc.)
  • Prepare and maintain instructional materials used during the execution of classes and camps (PowerPoints, guides)
  • Identify opportunities to improve and expand existing classes and camps

Requirements

  • Experience with coding languages required (Scratch, Python, Java, etc.)
  • Experience with robotics and other technology strongly preferred
  • Minimum 1-year teaching, tutoring or comparable experience
  • Analytical skills to examine existing curriculum and current education standards in order to make recommendations for improvement in curriculum and teaching
  • Highly organized and motivated
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to set clear objectives and to consistently meet deadlines
  • Genuine interest and real experience in STEM related activities
  • Effective writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with instructors, manager, and director
  • Passion and creativity able to think of new ways to engage students
